The two outsiders also meet one young local woman named Tatyana Pechak who the archduke is interested in marrying as she bears an exact likeness to another woman Istvan failed to wed a century earlier when that maiden cursed him and his family to an undead existence. Meeting this vampire lord, Jack and Elroy must rescue Valerie from his castle and prevent him taking Tatyana as his new bride when she turns twenty-one, while also destroying his tyranny over the region and finding their way back home.
