As always, it has been an extreme joy to work on this set of short stories. When I created the American Royalty miniseries, it was my goal to create a limited television series and nothing else. I wanted to show a typical American family reaching for the American Dream. As I wrote the final lines of the finale episode, it dawned on me that I'd created too many characters. Scores of people whose stories were not even touched had been invented. They talked to me; they lived with me. The voices of those characters spun around in my head on a daily basis.
