I placed my hand on my nervous stomach, feeling my grandmother's lace beneath my fingers. I was awestruck. This dress had been a labor of love for the past three months. With my grandmother's wedding lace and portions of my mother's, the Queen of Fales, pearl strewed wedding dress, my own wedding dress was now a creative culmination of my legacy as Princess of Fales. It was breathtaking and assured me that my approaching wedding was very real indeed. I smiled as tears filled my eyes. I had never been so happy and certainly had never looked so beautiful before. "I love it!" I whispered, overcome with happiness and all the giddiness of a bride-to-be. A knock at the door sounded. My mother rushed to me and took my hand in her cold and clammy one. "Anne-Lissette, something has happened! You must come with me," my mother whispered. My heart nearly stopped beating as I took in her grave expression. When my father joined us in the hallway, along with both of my brothers, I knew this could not be good news. "Anne-Lissette, darling, I do not know how to tell you this," my father said swallowing hard. I felt as if the earth were standing completely still. So very still, that even the rain, the wind, and the beating of my heart stopped all at once. "There has been a shipwreck, Anne, Vance's ship. His body is unaccounted for. They are searching diligently," my father said emotionally. My family loved Vance nearly as much as I. I felt myself swaying and Myles's arms going around me. I heard my voice cry out in a mournful bellow as I crumpled into my brother's arms. My sobs came rapidly, stealing the very breath from my lungs. There had to be a mistake...
