In India tribal sportspersons have excelled in different sports. These tribal sportspersons do not come from specific tribes or areas but they come from all parts of the country and belonging to different tribal community. It is equally true that some tribal pockets have produced more world class sportspersons as compared to other. For example, Sundargarh, a remote district of Odisha has produced so many hockey greats. So it is possible that tribals from different ethnic groups and living in altogether diverse demographic circumstances may have an affect on sports participation and excellence in sports. It may also be due to psychological well-being and cognitive ability such as problem solving ability of sportspersons coming from different parts of India. Although tribals are universally grouped in as weaker sections of society, their culture, religious practices are dissimilar to each other. Studies have shown the cross cultural variations in positive mental health and problem solving ability.
