Fine boro rice in Bangladesh is very important nowadays for internal consumption as well as export. In consideration of importance, the research works comprised of eleven sets of survey/experiments were conducted during November 2015 to May 2018 to investigate suitability of the varieties, their fertilizer management for increase productivity, nutrient uptake of modern and local fine boro rice varieties as well as nutrient balance of soils in the haor areas. Initially a survey (experiment 1) was done in 57 upazilas to observe the status of local and modern fine boro rice varieties that are cultivated in the haor areas. Six pot experiments were carried out at the research net house of the Department of Soil Science, Sylhet Agricultural University, Sylhet, during the boro seasons of 2016and 2017 for nutrient uptake study. In second experiment, two factors viz., two modern varieties(BRRI dhan50, BRRI dhan63) and two fertilizer doses [NPKS (recommended), NPKS (50% of recommended)] were investigated. Third experiment included two factors viz., four local varieties(Rata boro, Tapi boro, Begun bichi, Atobshail) and two fertilizer doses [NPKS (recommended), NPKS (50% of recommended)]
