Athletics is the last frontier of excused homophobia and transphobia. With increasing numbers of athletes from across the globe publicly coming out and stating that they are openly part of the queer community, the issue of how to create safe spaces and ensure a fair playing environment for queer athletes has become even more important. Too often, queer youth who wish to participate in athletics find that they are not able to find a place that welcomes them to excel in their sport of choice. This book is meant to open the realm of sports to the queer community and to show that there are spaces for anyone who wishes to participate in athletics, at any level and in any place in the world. The individuals who participate in athletics are growing to support the inclusion of all people in sports, and in doing so have made athletics stronger for it. Having lived through the coming out process as an active member of the sports community, this book includes advice and ideas for how to ensure that sports remains about the love of the game instead of the personal lives of the players.
