Reseña del libro "sensing the 21st century city: the net city close-up and remote"
the sensing of the city remotely and up close addresses an immense variety of issues, relating to the problems and complexities of contemporary and future urban design. how should architects and urban designers be hammering out new roles for themselves as architects and urban designers in the design of real and contested places within a shifting global fractual network? what kind of locality will take shape, in such a context, and how should architects and designers be engaging with the process of place-making? this title takes this and other associated questions pertaining to urban form and form-making processes directly to prominent urban visionaries, architects and experts in remote sensing and urban ecology. (anthropologist arjun appadurai, founding editor of public culture, geographer david harvey and economist saskia sassen will be approached for interviews, as well as leading architects such as paola vigano, keller easterlling, franz oswald, xavier de guyter, susana torre and winny maas. remote sensing expert christopher small from the earth institute, urban ecologists steward pickett and mary cadenasso, and social ecologists william burch and morgan grove; principal investigators in the exemplary baltimore ecosystem study, will also be interviewed forming an interdisciplinary forum.) up-close the issue will deal with the specifics of locality through eight case studies drawn from around the world. these will span the full scope of cities, including the welfare cities of scandinavia, as well as the unregulated growth at the periphery of latin american or south east asian cities.
